About the client:
As experts in making coatings, chances are you’re only ever a few meters from one of our client’s products. Active in over 150 countries, they have set there sights on becoming the global industry leader. It’s what you’d expect from the most sustainable paints company, which has been inventing the future for more than two centuries.

Challenges:
A national retailer relied on IoT-connected paint mixing machines in stores across the UK. But behind the scenes, their existing connectivity solution was holding them back.
Key Issues Identified:
🔒 Locked-in and inflexible contracts
The current provider demanded upfront, annual payments — limiting agility and tying the company into rigid terms with little room to scale or adapt.
📉 Lack of visibility & control
Operating on an aggregated data pool across all stores, the business had no way to monitor individual SIM usage. There was no self-service portal to easily identify SIMs or generate usage reports, leading to mounting frustration.
💰 Outdated pricing and bill shocks
High per-connection costs and unpredictable monthly charges were creating budget issues. Without real-time monitoring, unexpected overage fees became a regular occurrence.
🧩 Limited expansion options
Plans to roll out services into Ireland and the EU were stalled — the current provider couldn’t offer a seamless cross-border solution.
🔍 Operational blind spots
Teams couldn’t track where SIMs were deployed or confirm which locations were connected via IoT versus local Wi-Fi. This lack of clarity made network management nearly impossible.
🤔 Fear of change
While switching providers seemed essential, concerns about SIM swap logistics and the potential costs of migration created hesitation.
Solutions:
Following an introduction through one of our most trusted MSP resellers, the customer partnered with Connect365 to implement a solution tailored for control, flexibility, and long-term growth.
A Smarter Approach to SIM Management
The first step was a full audit of SIM usage across all UK locations. This allowed us to design a tariff that reflected real usage patterns and reduced waste. The result? A streamlined, scalable solution that cut the customer’s telecom spend by an average of £62,500 per year, transitioning over 2,200 IoT connections.
Multi-Network Resilience
Connect365 deployed award-winning unsteered multi-network IoT SIMs, giving each connection access to O2, Vodafone, EE, and Three — always defaulting to the strongest signal in each location. This ensures maximum uptime without reliance on a single network provider.
Live Portal Visibility and Control
We delivered full portal access for complete estate control. The customer can now:
-
Monitor real-time usage per connection
-
Assign SIMs to locations or teams
-
Set usage limits and bars
-
Receive alerts and notifications
-
Swap and rename SIMs instantly
All previously unavailable with their former provider.
Simple, Predictable Billing
All SIMs are billed only when they go live — no annual charges, no upfront lock-ins. This monthly aggregated billing model provides predictable costs and allows staged deployment without financial penalties.
Streamlined Rollout
We shipped 2,200 pre-configured SIMs directly to the customer, fully loaded onto the management portal. As their engineers replace old SIMs, they activate new ones via the portal. Billing only begins once a SIM is live — avoiding unnecessary costs during rollout.
Empowering the Team
Full onboarding and training were provided to ensure the customer’s team could get the most from the portal. Ongoing support ensures the estate remains optimised and future-ready.
Ready for Future Expansion
The same aggregated tariff model and portal will support the customer’s planned expansion into Ireland and the EU, all managed under one unified platform — a single pane of glass to oversee the entire SIM estate across multiple countries.
